December 3rd or 2800 meters

This was the day we started our hike up Mount Cameroon. We started early in the morning even though we still had to wait about an hour in Cameroonian manner. Finally we started.  The first hours were exhausting because of the humidity, it was not really steep- yet. Once the forest ended and we walked through the savannah it got really steep and really exhausting. Finally we reached the intermediate hut at 2400 meters. But out goal was even higher. And we knew the toughest part was yet to come. I had to motivate myself for every step. But also with every step the view over Buea got better. We were already over the clouds and it looked like we were walking toward in the sky. This massive mountain in my one side and the edge- the sky on the other.  It was breathtaking.

We were walking so slowly. Our porters passed us on a regular basis. But finally we reached hut 2 at 2800 meters. And I finally realized why this mountain looked so small from Buea: it was hut 2 from where you could actually see the summit. You couldn't see it from the foot of the mountain! And it looked as high as we had already walked today! But that was the worry for tomorrow. For now we just wanted to eat at the fire, look at the stars and enjoy the night.
